What is the cheapest way to use my phone in France for 2 months?

I am going to France for about 2 months for a summer internship and I was wondering if I could deactivate my account for these 2 months and get a SIM card and a new plan there while not having to pay for unlocking my phone. I have a prepaid iPhone 5S which I bought unlocked and have a base plan of 15$/month.

Here's a good site you could start with : http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/France

Well your phone is unlocked so you're fine there. It doesn't get locked again. Since you are prepaid, you can let your payment lapse. You have 90 days before its deactivated, and since you'll be gone for only 60 days or so, you can even kep your number and just pay when you're ready. I also suggest Free Mobile while you're in France.

If you have auto renew/topup, just make sure that is disabled

So basically I just have to buy another SIM card in France and get a new phone number? Or can I still use the one I have and just get a french plan?

Yes you will get a French number. Now if you also want a Canadian number, I suggest installing Fongo so you have a number for free. You get 50GB of data from Free Mobile so you can conveniently keep in touch with people back in Canada. Texting is extra is the only thing. Also if you want to use your current number you will have to port it to a provider that will let you roam in France. Roaming ain't cheap. I wouldn't unless you port to Fongo and port back again. Costs like 20 bucks. Prepaid with Koodo only let's you roam in the US currently.
