I recently lost my iPhone and am looking at my options for getting a new one. However, I am planning to go to Australia for 6 months, in 6 months. I wasn't clear about the vacation hold; is it iPhone plans or iPhones themselves that can't be put on hold? Also, when it's on hold, I wouldn't be able to get a different plan from an Australian provider would I? My other option is to activate my dad's old samsung phone from a different provider on my account (this is possible right?) I had my iPhone on an old Canada Wide plan that I was grandfathered into. I do also realize that I will have to get a new plan when I get back to Canada anyways (which is a terrible rule - will likely make me switch providers). Thanks for your help!

iPhone plans can't be put on vacation hold. Or that was the case as of the last time I checked. Putting your account on seasonal hold doesn't effect your ability to use an Australian sim card in your phone, as long as it's unlocked. The hold is on the account level and has nothing to do with the phone. You are more than able to put your Canada-wide plan on seasonal hold. Also, the thing requiring you to chose a new plan when you come back is standard amoung all carriers. The seasonal hold is literally it's own rate plan and if your rate plan isn't offered anymore at the time, there is no way for Koodo to magically add it again. It needs to be in the system for it to be re-added.
