Unlocked iPhone from cancelled plan.

I bought an iPhone from Future Shop under the Koodo plan. Does this mean that it is unlocked? I lost it for 2 months and cancelled my plan and recently found it and am looking to sell it. Do I have to pay for an unlocking fee or is this already unlocked?

It is not unlocked unless you got koodo to unlock it which Im assuming you haven't. It's $50 to unlock it from koodo or you can unlock it by a 3rd party service. I recommend you get it unlocked from koodo because 3rd party services tend to charge a lot for iphone unlocks.

Every phone you buy from a carrier in Canada, except for Nexus devices, are locked to that carrier. Doesn't matter if it's from Future Shop, Mobile Shop, Walmart, etc. However, some are compatible with subsidiaries under that brand. Telus/Koodo iPhones are interchangeable as are the BB 10 devices, some Rogers phones work on Fido and all will work with Chatr, most Bell/Virgin phones are swappable too, etc.

Hi could you explain that?... If I buy an iPhone from Walmart do they come unlocked? I am a Koodo subscriber since for ever. My account is in the black (i owe nothing) I don't want to increase my bill by $10+ per month ...can this happen?

I repeat: every phone activated or sold with a carrier, regardless of the store ie. Walmart, Best Buy, etc. is locked to the carrier. The only way you'll but one already unlocked is purchased at full retail price + tax from the Apple store or a second hand model unlocked. Koodo can also unlock your Koodo iPhone for $35 if you've been active at least 90 days.
