Unable to send/receive images on iPhone 3GS?

Hey there, I recently purchased a used iPhone 3GS that is locked to TELUS/Koodo and swapped out my SIM card from my blackberry curve to the iPhone. Everything has been working splendidly. The only issue is I've been trying to send images to my contacts and the loading bar goes to around 75% and then it tells me it was unable to send. I'm wondering if this is a network issue? MMS is turned on in my settings. So I'm not sure, is this occuring because I swapped phones but am using the same SIM?

I have I have Cellular Data off because I don't have a current Data plan so the last time I had it switched on it charged me 75 cents instantly.

So MMS requires cellular data to be on in order to work. A strategy I employ is to make sure I am connected to a strong wifi signal so all my data use (updates, etc) goes through wifi. Then I turn on my Mobile Data to send my MMS. This will prevent data leakage and getting charged for data that you didnt want your phone to use

So you're saying turn on Cellular data when I'm connected to wifi in order to send my image?

Doing it this way, it will minimize data leakage and help prevent a data charge since mms is included in your plan but other data is not

So as long as I have wifi on it won't charge me a cent for data use?

It worked! As soon as a switched Cellular Data on whilst still being connected to Wi-Fi I immediately received all the photos my friends had sent me, and was able to send my brother a photo. After that was done I turned off cellular data. I checked my usage on my koodo page and it's still 0 for data. So... I guess you can say you've just solved my problem. Thanks man!

You have to be careful though. If the wifi signal gets dropped or is too weak, then the phone might switch to Mobile Data and you may be charged for data use if apps are updating in the background

For sure, I instantly turn it off when I'm finished sending a photo, and I always make sure I have a strong connection.

Was the previous owner a TELUS subscriber? If so, you will need to change your APN/MMS settings to Koodo. With an iPhone, I believe it is a matter of re-initializing your phone within iTunes. See this page for setting values: http://koodomobile.com/en/ab/non-koodo-phone-data-setup.shtml

Dennis showed me an alternative, it makes sense now that you posted that link. The phone I have is Telus but compatible with Koodo, so some MMS settings are different. So although I still don't know how to change it so it works no matter what I can now just switch cellular data on to receive photos while I'm connected to wifi. Thanks for the tip!
