Sending texts from Cuba to Canada

Last year in Cuba I tried to send texts back to Canada but kept getting "cannot send error" , or something to that effect. Koodo people says it should work. Apple people says talk to Koodo, Koodo people says talk to Apple. I have an IPhone4.

If you never added the international roaming add-ons (one is for calls/texts and one for data) during your trip then that's why. They're required for your phone to work in Cuba. These can be added via self-serve before or during your trip 🙂

Same applies anywhere away from Canada & US. No roaming add-on = no service.

Same here; paid the extra $15, but wasn't told about the Int'l roaming add-ons & I couldn't contact Koodo from Cuba to find out what went wrong.
It's odd that Koodo service agents never told me this.

Hey Lisa, Thanks for reaching out. Be assured that we understand your frustration. However since we don’t have access to your account here, we can’t confirm if it was due to a missing add-on or if it was a network/technical issue. You can send us an email via this link: http://koo.do/11eMLdy (select Social Media) and we’ll have a closer look into it. For next time, please keep in mind that you can give us a call from another phone to get it sorted out. In order to use your phone in Cuba, you need to make sure that you have all the options mentioned by Ahmad or you can choose one of our new roaming features, take a look: http://koo.do/koodoadd-ons. For more info on international roaming, check out this link: http://koo.do/Im7Mcg. Just a reminder, roaming outside of Canada isn’t available with our prepaid service. Thank you. ******************************************** If you see a good answer, give it a star.

Because  you posted one link to a koodoadd-on page that is not entirely real and correct , I post my very recent experience.

I don't know if my comment will stay, but the add-on 30TEXT (means 75 text messages for 15$) is a BIG, NICE SCAM. Every message is divided after less then 100 char.

For me one 328 char text message was send like 5 text messages at same minute.
Sender see only one,  receiver only one. You see on your bill or on self service account that your 75 text are not 75 , more like 15 , but if you don't know you continue to send believing that you are under the 75 limit.

For me, my 63 text messages, most of it shorter then 160 characters, was counted like 240, all over 75 limit charged with 0.60$. Discussions with customer service  was humiliating, one supervisor trying to convince me that you can press on send 5 time faster and the message is 5 time transmitted. Big BS, you can't press on send even a second time, maybe was like this 20 years ago.

So, the activation code is a hidden message that tell you to stay under 30 messages not bigger then 200 characters to avoid international text charges (0.60$/text).

Very bad experience with customer service and technical support.

There's something wrong with your phone settings, it's probably set to send every message as an Mms. Also keep in mind that iMessage is not the same as sms so if you want to text while using these add ons, it's important to turn iMessage off.

RE Cuba; So for example, if I want to text lets say, 604-270-1234, I would have to put 119 1 604-270-1234 for the text message to go through is that correct?
