Roaming in USA, cannot make calls, have to reboot iPhone 5 often to use data


Phone is an iPhone 5 that was previously on Telus, moved to different number on Koodo and has been working fine in Canada for months on a $35/month plan (200 minutes, 50 MB of data and Unlimited text & picture messaging). Added 30ALL US roaming plan during travel to US. Texting is working fine but have to reboot phone to make data work and then it only works for a few minutes. Also, cannot make any phone calls - they just don't connect.
Unfortunately, this is my son's phone and he is the one in the US so I cannot try anything directly. I will have to relay any information to him ... by text unfortunately. Any ideas

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

He'll lose any saved WiFi passwords. Most of the time this fixes network issues.

Yes, I still need help. I have tried all the suggestions that have been given. Data is better but he is still not able to make or receive calls. Is there any way for him to get help directly? I would tell him to call you but obviously he is not able to. I spent a lot to get this add-on and would like it to work. Please help.
It was already set to Roaming so I don't think that is the issue. Tried resetting the network settings and the data "is working slightly better now" is what I heard back. He still is unable to make or receive phone calls. I tried calling him and it just went directly to voice mail. I do still need help.
From my son: "Every 3 minutes or so I get no service and then it comes back. It's just so constant that's the annoying part." They are traveling between San Diego and Las Vegas but I don't think anyone else he's traveling with is having these issues. Also concerned that voice calls don't work at all. Please help.

Ask your son if the carrier selection is put on automatic? Maybe try manual mode and see if that solves the problem? Maybe that road over there doesn't get good coverage? You said his friends don't have this problem?

You really should contact customer care at this point. We can only do so much here.

I'd really like him to contact customer care but he can't since he is unable to make phone calls. Is there any other way to contact customer care?

Try sending a private message on Koodo's Facebook page with the appropriate details. Phone lines are very busy and apparently he can't make voice calls anyway.

Twitter or facebook is available. They can access your account. Just make sure there verified. As in its the correct legit facebook/twitter account. He can also call from Google Hangouts for free as well as Skype/Fongo any VOIP calling app. 1 (866) 995-6636
