The $15 dollar baseplan is the minimum, however you will miss out on unlimited (local or Canada-wide) evenings and weekends calling, if you select this baseplan. For the first month, you could pay for the $15 baseplan through automatic top up. By registering your credit or Visa debit card on your Prepaid Self Serve account, you will get a free 100 minute talk booster add-on. You can also purchase the $25/500 minute talk booster at the same time.
When you register for automatic 30 day top-ups, the 10% savings on your monthly base plan will be credited back to your account each time your base plan renews for another month, and every month after that as long as you keep automatic top-ups on your account. It may take awhile for the savings to accumulate, but the savings can be applied toward either a talk booster or a baseplan. Koodo charges a $35 unlocking fee for unlocking your phone.
Another option, if you want to keep your current phone number, Koodo advises against cancelling your current service before switching to them. Your phone number [b]must be active in order to move it. You can check to see if your phone number is eligible to move to Koodo, (see first link below). Click on 'Check your Number'.
On another note, you should be able to do all of the things mentioned here from your Prepaid Self Serve account. Go to: https://www.koodomobile.com/contact-us - and click 'Call Us' to see a list of what can be done on Self Serve for free. For example, making a phone number change is free through Self Serve and $25 if customer service does it for you.
