New SIM card not working in new phone


I purchased a used "unlocked" iphone recently however after searching the imei # I found out it *was* locked with Telus Canada. I punched the number in on the koodo site to see if it would work with their network and they said it should so I went ahead and ordered a new SIM for it and activated it over self serve, waited 20min and then put it in the new phone but it is still saying SIM required! I am feeling very discouraged at this point as everything I have been instructed to do has failed and I don't know where to go from here.

IT should work. Try connecting it to iTunes in order to update carrier setings!

Thanks for the link...I don't know what it means to "unbrick the iphone" though. Are there instructions somewhere on how to do this?

It means when you first activate it
Ok I have done some looking around and I think I understand what I am supposed to try....I am in the middle of downloading itunes update(won't work with my phone otherwise) so when that is through I will give it a try. Hope it works! There is no danger of losing anything in my itunes when I do this is there?

You may have purchased a lost/stolen phone. Check the IMEI# here: http://www.protectyourdata.ca/check-the-status-of-your-device-in-canada/ If it's blacklisted, that's your problem. If not, either the SIM card is faulty or the SIM card reader in the phone is faulty. If the phone's not blacklisted, take it to your nearest Koodo kiosk and try it with one of their SIMs (from their own kiosk phones).

Thanks that was one of the first things I was able to check and thankfully we're good on that account 🙂

Glad to hear it. Hopefully it's just a faulty SIM card then.
"There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate." is the msg that comes up when trying to activate with itunes

Well, try closing and re-opening your iPhone. If not, I think something is wrong with the SIM...
Now I am getting this one on the phone and on itunes screen "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported. The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information." I searched the imei through koodo and the telus canada network should work with koodo

I would try another sim card. Try this card in another phone or another sim card in your phone

Tried it in my old phone and it works...I don't think it is the SIM card

Which iphone is this? Try a Telus sim card in it? If it doesnt work then I dont think it is a Telus iphone

it is an iphone 4s I searched the imei # through iPhoneIMEIinfo.com to find the carrier it was locked to and that's how I found out it was locked to telus.

I can't go to settings because the phone is not activated yet. All I can access is the emergency dial pad.

Not by the looks of it. It requires me to insert a SIM card into the phone and shows no other options 😕

Bring to the Apple Store. They can find out for sure who the phone is locked to and why it wont work with your Koodo sim
OK just wanted to let all you good people know that I have solved(however not *resolved*) my issue! I used the IMEI# off the phone's SIM tray for the search I did to find the carrier BUT this evening a friend was fiddling with the phone and somehow(completely by accident and unknowingly) did something that brought up the IMEI# and ICCID# on the phone screen. I right away recognized it as a different number than the one that was on the SIM tray. I performed another search with this IMEI# and it revealed that the phone is locked to Bell. Mystery solved! ....well one mystery.... I am a little uneasy that this phone has a SIM tray from another phone....gets me thinking someone took a old iphone and has done some part switching....?? I did another lost/stolen search of the *real* IMEI# for good measure and it came up clean I have contacted the person I bought it from but so far no replies 😛 I guess my next course of action is to take the phone to Bell and see if there is anything they can do for me. Thanks for everyone's attempts to assist. Hopefully this will be a good learning opportunity for more than just me 😛

Dialing *#06# shows the IMEI.

Wish you best of lucks. Next time, check the IMEI on the phone itself. Every phone has this kind of info in Settings > About.
Yes I tried that but when you can't get past the activation screen you can't access settings...or anything ha ha. Typing the code into the emergency dial pad didn't work...so like I said don't know how/ why it came just glad it did.
