New Shock Free Data but no Wifi????


I just switched my old plan over to new one with extra Shock Free data. However, my phone says regular data has expired and that I have no internet service? I thought I would have Wifi when using at home without connecting to my mobile internet. Am I missing something? Frustrated.....signed: Technically Ghallenged 🙂

Is access to your wi-fi turned on your phone Tracey. Our plans have nothing to do with your wi-fi access so that wouldn't be the issue.

Hi. When I am at home, I turn my Wifi off so I'm using my phone data and not my home data, as pricibgbus outrageous. But when my Wifi is turned to Off, comes up saying I have no Internet. Why?

Sounds like a possible router connection problem. When you go to your phone's setting can you see your home wi-fi network show up?

I am really confused by your comments, if you can help us out, we may be able to save you from asking grandkids to rescue you.

Yes, if you have consumed all your cellular data on your phone plan, you would have no internet while trying to connect through cellular data.

Yes, if you have internet service at your home, you can connect your phone to your home Wi-Fi, and save your cellular data for times when Wi-Fi is not available to you.

Your home Wi-Fi is the cheapest you can get, unless connecting to a public Wi-Fi service such as at a library or merchant. I don't understand why you would turn your Wi-Fi off when at home. You might have a few GB of data on your phone plan. You would likely have hundreds of GB of data on your home Internet plan, and be unable to consume it all.

If you turn your Wi-FI off, and have consumed all your cellular data, then you can't connect to the Internet. You would have to either buy a plan with more data for your phone, or connect it to your home Internet service. I suggest the latter.

My home data is maxed out so I want to use my phone data. I changed my phone plan to give me more data, but it wasn't working. Kept getting attached message. Shut phone off and restarted and seems ok now?

The Red circle shows the empty space where your data connection would show. You are not currently connected to the internet by Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Can you show your settings page, and your Settings > Cellular page?

Thanks everyone for your help. Once I turned off and back on, it's been fine

Rebooting a phone will usually fix a "connect, can't browse" issue on a phone (where all other devices on the wireless network are working fine).
