Does Nunavut have Telus/Bell hspa coverage, Sandra? Do you already have Koodo service? In that case you can just purchase a nano SIM card and activate it in self service. Otherwise, you'll need to sign up for a plan... unless you want to go with prepaid. Can you tell us a bit more?

I did a bit of research for you, and found this article: http://www.nunatsiaqonline.ca/stories/article/65674northwestel_to_transfer_all_northern_cell_phone_services_to_bell_mobil/ Apparently Nunavut is still a bit, er... "behind" when it comes to cell service and it might only work with the old type cmda phones. You're best off to call Koodo, Sandra, they'll probably be able to tell you if there is coverage where you need it... See also http://nunavutchillers.blogspot.ca/2013/02/cell-phones-part-2.html

Looks like telus does offer coverage in some regions of nunvut with the 3g and LTE networks: http://about.telus.com/community/english/news_centre/news_releases/blog/2013/08/26/true-north-strong-and-fast--telus-arriving-in-northern-canada This should mean most reasonably new smartphones will work up there, at least any of the phones koodo has on offer, as well as any iPhone sold in Canada.
