Mysterious data charges

The cellular data on my phone is off yet I am being charged additional $77 for exceeding the data limit.  How is this possible?

It's possible an application has triggered the data to be turned on. The only way data is charged, is if the phone uses it. What phone do u have?
iphone 6s.  Can I just have data disabled to avoid this?

Yes. When u talk to customer care if u do to despite the charges have them do it. Or go to self serve and under add ons there is an add on called data block with picture messaging there that is what u want. And u can still send picture messages but no application data.

Thanks!  One more question for you... My plan includes unlimited Canada-wide family calling but I got a long distance charge from a call made to a family member.  Is that something I need to set up with family numbers?

Canada wide family calling is only to people on the same account. You can have up to 5 lines per account and that would be your "family". You would be able to call anyone under your account from anywhere in canada.

Make sure Wi-Fi assist is not on by default. It might use more data then you expect because of that

Hey Cass!

Now that you have successfully added the data block, there is no risk of any apps triggering your data to be turned on 🙂!

As chadwick has mentioned, unlimited family calls would mean free calls within subscribers of one same account. Keep in mind that your plan is not Canada-Wide, but rather Local. If you call outside of your local zone, long distance charges will apply!
