Koodo iPhone locked to Speakout?


I bought a Koodo iPhone yesterday from BestBuy and my daughter unfortunately put her Speakout SIM in first. The phone appears to be locked to Speakout now and Koodo SIM now won't work. Not sure what to do?

I would go back to bestbuy and ask for their help. They may replace it if you tell them a Koodo SIM will not work. Or you can go the honest route and have it unlocked via Koodo. If you factory reset the phone, and then enter the Koodo SIM does that help?
I'll try and do a factory reset. Can Koodo unlock the phone if the factory reset doesn't work?

Maybe but they charge 50$ to do so.

Yes they should be able to unlock it. But I would look around locally for unlocking services in your area.

I believe you are unlikely to find a third party unlock service for an iPhone at a lower price than through Koodo. However, now that the phone is locked to SpeakOut, you may have to get an unlock from them. Or maybe your daughter has a shiny new iPhone!

Triphone Cellular in Chatham, Ontario does them for 40$ if im not mistaken, but its been a while. ( local to me )
Just to be clear, I don't actually want to use the Speakout account with the phone any longer but the new Koodo account but I can't at the moment because the phone is locked to the old carrier. Is an unlock from Koodo still required?

It may be if the factory reset doesn't work, I would go back to Best Buy if the reset does not work and get a swap going since you are within 15 days and make sure to set up the phone AT Best Buy before you leave that way you know it works with Koodo. So bring your SIM if you go back.

Koodo cannot unlock an iPhone locked to another carrier. And since SpeakOut doesn't carry the iPhone, I doubt that they can unlock it. Whichever company's network Speakout operates on might be, but only if you're a customer. I believe your only course of action is to return the phone to BestBuy
