Iphone 5 says "searching" most of the time. Phone issue or Koodo Service Issue?

hello, i recently got a.gift of an Iphone 5 that works with Koodo. However, up until a week ago, my service and phone were running great. Now, for the last few days starting from about Tuesday October 22, 2013; my phone has started just losing service and keeps saying that its searching for service. I get service for 5-10 minutes at various parts of the day and then I lose it again. I had spoken to apple and the only options they have is that its either a faulty sim, no service at the moment, or iphone problem. Now before I further look into the iphone problem (which is more expensive), I was just wondering what else could be done about this issue. And I did get a new Nano Sim, however it still says searching. Just wanted some clarification on this problem, and if in fact it is the service issue, any news when it will be back. I am in the Kitchener/Waterloo Region. Thanks

Do you have the phone set to LTE and are an area with low LTE coverage possibly
I do have LTE toggled on and Waterloo is usually an LTE covered area. But I've had this phone for about a week and the first few days LTE and my service worked perfectly. But now I don't even get service. Still says "searching"

Try to reset the network settings
Did that a few times. Apple did it too

Sounds to me like a phone/SIM issue. Borrow another nanoSIM from another Koodo customer (or go to a Kiosk and see if they have one lying around) to make sure you eliminate all the easy-to-fix issues. Sometimes SIM cards just conk out for random reasons. If that fails... I would say it was a phone issue. Waterloo is a big enough place that people would have heard much more noise if the network was floppy there. Have you accidentally dropped the phone? It's cold and those things are slippery.

Also, was the nanoSIM a factory nanoSIM, or was it cut by someone? Sometimes that can be the issue.

Factory nano sim, I just got my second sim yesterday. I haven't dropped it. How can I determine whether it's a phone issue versus a service/Sim issue

Try a working koodo sim in your phone, if the issue persists, then it is not a sim issue. If you go to Settings > General > About. Does it say Koodo under Carrier? If not you have to setup your phone to be used with Koodo again http://koodomobile.com/en/on/switch2koodo-step-3-d.shtml
