Must have been a leak. You got off wi-fi somehow. iphone5 also had a glitch where it was sucking way too much data. Have you updated the software yet?

Ya if you've never updated the software in the phone over iTunes then it could be the bug that was present in the first version of IOS 6 software that the phone shipped with. It would would count your wifi usage as data usage. Did you just get the phone or have you had it for a few months at least using wifi with no billing discrepancies?

Does the bill say that the charges are data usage? It could be something else. Perhaps you've subscribed to some sort of premium messaging program or a pay-to-play game.

Iphones are a very data sensitive gadget. Even though you may not use your iphone when you not connected to a wifi network, their are many apps that are running in the back ground such as email, fb, twitter etc. Unless you manually go into the settings for each app and set it up to only work when you manually open them then they will always be constantly be checking their servers for updates. The only way to avoid unnecessary charges is settings>general>cellular>data (switch to off).
