I send a text on my iphone, the reply comes on my iPad, why? How can I change this?

iPhone 5s, 100 Local minutes, Pay-per-use data, Unlimited messaging. When I send a text on my phone why does the reply come back on my iPad over wifi? How can I change this?

You're probably using iMessage, Paul. If you only want to receive text messages on your phone, you should disable iMessage.

Thanks, So I turned off iMessage on the iPad. Should it be turned on on my phone?

Yes. else you will only receive messages when connected to Wi-Fi.

It should also come back to your phone whether it is connected to Cellular data or Wi-Fi. Make sure in your Messages settings, you have set it up to receive messages from both your number and your iTunes account. Same on your iPad. Once both are set up the same, both should receive replies, and either should be able to send a response.

If you do not have a data plan on your phone, then Messages will send to the device currently connected (your iPad at home on Wi-Fi) and not your disconnected iPhone.

Thanks, isn't text messaging supposed to work through my cell service even with cellular data turned off? I have pay per use data and I keep it turned off most of the time until I need it. I am happy to receive and send text messages on my phone only. imessage is turned on, so is SMS. will that now work for iPhones as well as non-Apple phones?

If you don't always have data I suggest turning it off. Way easier like that.

Paul, iMessage isn't the same as text messaging. It can send SMS, but it's much more feature-rich and thus requires data.

Also it can do that too by an app called sync that is built in to your phone so you have to turn that off. That's what I did and it worked.
