And the charge is 8 dollars now and I was on land in Canada. This is criminal.
You can contact Koodo if you were charged for roaming while in Canada. Make sure roaming is off on your phone. If you still have questions, please start a new thread, this one is several years old now.
Funny thing is, radio signals don’t respect international boundaries. The corrective steps are contained in the preceding posts of this thread.
Turning off the phones’ roaming feature is one part of preventing your phone from roaming on neighbouring networks, particularly if you reside or travel near the U.S. border. The other part is to turn off automatic network selection. This ensures the phone stays with Koodo and cannot switch to other networks.
To turn off automatic network selection on iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular - tap Network Selection, move the slider switch from Automatic (on by default) to the off position, and wait for a list of carriers (networks) to appear. Select Koodo and exit out of the Settings menu.
To turn off automatic network selection on Android devices, go to Settings, tap Network & Internet - select Cellular networks, (the path may be a little different on your Android device). Select Network and look for the heading Network - Choose automatically or similar. Set the slider switch to the off position and wait for a list of carriers (networks) to appear. Select Koodo, then exit out of the Settings menu. A confirmation message will appear that says the phone is registered with Koodo.
