If your phone was off for longer than 5 days, or if the message was sent longer than 5 days ago, unfortunately that message was lost, Lisa 😞
Well...my phone was only off for about two hours. And i know at least one of my friends sent me a text. Nothing came in once i turned my phone back on. How do i retrieve those messages?

there was another time, that i am aware of, when my phone did an update and was shut down and turned back on. I was told by two people that they sent me text and i never recieved them. But this could have been happening since i got my phone a year ago....who knows.

Was it another iphone user? If so, turn on data or connect to wifi.

Text messages are über reliable (in comparison to many other things) and are held by the network for several days until your phone checks in. There is a good possibility the sender sent the message to the wrong destination if you didn't get it when you turned your phone back on. In some rare cases messages are simply lost due to a technical glitch somewhere along the way, particularly when it is between different carriers as it goes though a single gateway choke point that connects the different carriers together and that is sometimes out of service temporarily. Send your friend a message in the other direction (from you to them) and see if they get it and can successfully reply to it.
