Hotspot fees?

I'm just wondering if there is an extra fee associated with using my iPhone for personal hotspot use on my iPad? Can I safely cancel my 3G monthly bill that runs me about $45/month?

Hi Brandy, tethering in itself is free, the only cost you can run up is the extra data you'll probably be using 🙂

Sophia is correct using your iPad connected to your phones hotspot is the same as using data on your phone & will not cost you any more that if you used it on your phone. Keep in mind if you connect a laptop to your phone through a hotspot it will use much more data since it will be displaying full Web pages and not the mobile version that your phone and tablet shows.

"Can I safely cancel my 3G monthly bill that runs me about $45/month?" If you're talking about the data plan you have with your phone, no because that's where the data is coming from that you're using for your hotspot unless you want pay-per-use data charges.
Awesome, thanks! I have 3G wit another carrier for my iPad and its the extra bill I want gone! Much appreciated!
I'm wondering if I can use my iPhone 5 as a hotspot for and iPad then beam an acceptable signal to my iTV and big screen for a New Year's party? We're in a clubhouse with no internet connection. I can download a CityTV app that will show the show but not sure when shown on the 45" screen that it will look good? Any info appreciated. John

It should work, but if you're planning to stream video you may want to consider charging admission for this party, since it's going to use a LOT of data.

I've used a TV app on my 3G iPad with acceptable results. There was some pauses while it had to reload the buffer. Maybe it would be better if you are able to get LTE. I thought the data usage was okay but I didn't have it running very long. I'm not sure how the beaming to the iTV would work. I'm hoping it wouldn't pass through the data on the phone and charge you. The problem is the wifi connection is already used for the phone tethering. Anyway, let us know if it works for you.
