Does inserting my current SIM card into a new phone lock the phone to Koodo?

If I insert my current SIM card into a new unlocked phone, will it automatically lock the phone to Koodo? I'm going to the US for a few days, and I'm planning on getting a pay-as-you-go plan once I get there.  I was wondering if I should wait and put my Canadian SIM card into my new phone once I get back, or if I can put it in for a few days and then not have to get it unlocked before I go to the US. Thanks!

For a few weeks sorry, not a few days.

It depends on the phone and it's status.

if it is a fully unlocked phone, then entering a koodo sim will not lock the phone to Koodo.

If it is a locked phone but comes unlocked, then it will lock to the first sim that gets inserted.

It has a blank SIM in it right now.

What phone do you have? If it's an iPhone it is currently locked with the provider you bought it from. So it will do absolutely nothing if you're not inserting a Canadian SIM card. You would still need to unlock the phone before going to the US

No worries. You can change SIM back and forth without incident and no effect on device locking/unlocking.

I assumed you bought it fully unlocked.

As I said, it's a brand new unlocked phone.

Where did you purchase the unlocked iphone?

if it was bought unlocked from Apple Canada Online as an unlocked phone then you have no issue as it is fully unlocked.

if you bought it in store, or at a carrier kiosk, then it is unlocked until you enter the first carrier sim and then it will lock to that carrier
