Data usage overcharge.


Today I received a notification saying my data plan is about to expire (75% used), ten minutes later, another message saying I used 95%. When I logged myself into Self serve I noticed something strange. I was charged multiple data portions in one second. I checked my iPhone to look for an unusual data consumption, I found nothing.

Yup, one of your apps is pinging the server over and over and over. Restart your device and check under data usage to see which app it might be. There should be some way to check what's using your data on iphone
As I said before, I checked. Nothing. I do not stream any video or music. It never happened before.

Give koodo a call and talk to tech support and then (assuming the data leak stops) ask for billing to give you a credit. Strange

I had the same problem last month twice and again this week once only in my case it is 10MBs few times in the same second. I would like to know how to stop that, have no time to argue with Koodo Tech for half an hour each time & him telling me I'm doing something wrong.

Other than a rogue app misbehaving, I can't understand why that would be happening. That's bizarre.

This is the second report of multiple 5MB data transfers per unit time we have seen recently. Does two instances make a trend? Interesting that both report multiples of exactly 5.00 MB. Might this be an OTA update? http://community.koodomobile.com/koodo/topics/simultaneous-charges-for-data-usage

Because I went over my data usage the last two months, I was very careful this month. Then yesterday was the last day of billing so I tried to use up my data because I still had about 500 gb. I just checked my bill and they have charged me for another 500gb. I am so fed up with this. I have previously read a number of people saying they have been overcharged! Why do they not have to give us our data usage in real time? I think it is their responsibility to do so.

Why do you feel you have to use up every byte of your Data allotment? Do you call someone every month to use up your minutes? Do you always drink all of the supersize pop? Use what you truly need for the month out of your allotment and you'll be happier. You can consume data faster than they can report it, is why it is not reported in real time. It also makes little sense to set up a system which is overwhelmed by reporting instances. Reporting every few bytes would likely overwhelm a billing system.

Also, they start charging you the moment you've used 500.01 Mb as if you used another 500 Mb. Therefore, this is it's risky to play near the limit. You maybe went over by a tiny amoun

Dfbutt, I want to use all of my data because I am paying for it. Each month I loose a certain amount just so I do not go over. It should be carried over to the next month because like Robert said, if you go over by .01mb then they charge you for 500mbs. There are lots of reasons/excuses why the providers cannot show our data usage in real time but, what a great thing they have going. Why would they want to change it.

Gail, do you really expect that the 73 MB that JackK downloaded in less than a minute, or the 1.5 GB I downloaded once in less than 4 minutes could sensibly be reported in real time in a fashion that you could manage it? If you are playing that close to the end of your monthly allotment, because you want to squeeze every las byte from your package, then you run the same risk as driving past gas stations on the highway as your gas gauge nears empty. As I said earlier, do you consume every drop of the Big Gulp? Drive in circles to use up the 200 km/day included in the car rental, or ski every day of the season with your ski pass? Have you ever made more food for a potluck than was consumed? Use the product as intended, and you'll be a lot happier.

Koodo has made recent change to their carrier settings. I wouldn't see why, but it may be the cause?

There are a ton of data use monitoring apps available in each platforms respective appstore. For Android check out 3G Watchdog its free, for blackberry 10 there is the cleverly named "data usage monitor" I suggest you use one of these and set the thresholds a bit lower than your cap to avoid surprises.
