Data turned on but not loading anything?


I recently went away on a trip that's 4 hours from home. I had service with 1-2 bars but when I turned my data on it wouldn't load anything. Family's phones worked with their data but they aren't with Koodo. Drove closer to home (1 hour away) and data worked fine with 1 bar. I have an iPhone btw. How do I get data to work at the place? Had no data blocks on either and didn't run out of data yet.

Could be an issue with that particular location. Does it happen elsewhere? What carrier are your family with?
Haven't experienced that issue elsewhere. But it's strange that other phone carriers worked and not Koodo. Anything I can try doing?

Then it should work, as Bell / Virgin and Telus / Koodo share network infrastructure. Usually where one works the other does without question.  A side note - the bars on your phone indicate the strength of the voice / text part of your connectivity. The 3G / LTE symbol indicates your connection to the data network.

Here area few suggestions for next time:

Restart your phone.

Go to Settings > Cellular Data options > Cellular Data Network > Reset settings. You will lose your stored Wi-Fi settings but it will reboot your network connections.

Remove & re-insert your SIM.

I had this happen to me in Manitoba and was able to get data to work when to enabled data roaming.

Depending on where this location was, it might be on Koodo's EXTended network.  To get data to work in this situation, you need to enable data roaming (even your are still in canada).  Dont worry, there are no extra roaming fees for using data in this situation.

Thanks Dennis, I'll have to try the next time we go up which should be in May and hopefully it will work by then
