Confused by fate of my positive Tab if I switch plans


I am on one of the old (pre-April 2015) plans, 60$ per month, with 2 Gb data. My tab is positive (I could use it, for example, to upgrade my current iPhone). It isn't clear what happens to my positive tab if I switch to a newer plan (60$ per month, 5 Gb data) when I use the self-serve. Can anyone explain what happens to the positive tab? Does it disappear? Thanks for your feedback!

If ur already on the new tab structure there's nothing to worry about. You can change your plan and keep ur tab balance. If your on the old tab structure than you will have to upgrade to new tab structure before u can change ur plan so im assuming you will have to use your balance in the process.

We are on an old plan that is still taking the tab fee off the account - and now we have a negative balance.  Can I stop this as we don't want a new phone currently and just want to see the billing reduced?

If you are talking about their 10% bill discount once you paid off your tab, they are not offering it anymore unfortunately...

So, if Koodo is contributing positive tab for you, it would be better to stay with it.

Also if you paid off your tab, you just pay for your plan now- no more monthly tab fee until you buy a new phone.

No, my bill comes in with phone charges and a negative amount for my tab - like -$28 because they're still taking money off each month for the phone tab yet balance of phone unit cost is paid.??
And I'm not planning to get a new phone at this time.

If it says -28 then the balance of your phone hasn't been paid off yet. You should still as Mayumi said hang onto it. Once the tab switches over to a positive one, whenever you're ready to upgrade, you can sue it towards a new phone.

ok but what if you are on the old plan? I got my new phone with a Christmas special.. $56 4G. i need to upgrade my phone i also have a positive tab balance if i upgrade.. does that mean i am forced to pay current prices instead of the price i am paying now?and what actually happens with the tab..if i use it..does that mean i will just the tab and once paid off it wont add to it!!

What do you mean " you are forced to pay current prices?" You can keep your plan. And if you have a positive tab, then you can use it towards your new phone. Koodo doesn't contribute for your phone any more. You will pay whole amount for it. Your monthly bill will be : Your plan + tab charge.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if you switch to one of the new plans, that your Tab would stay at the Positive Amount, but you wouldn't accumulate any more positive Tab credits.

I think ur correct. But from the other posts I'm reading. Ppl are saying u have to use it. So I'm not 100% sure

It is confusing. If I get a new plan, I do get an extra 3Gb of data per month for the same price I am currently paying. However, depending on what you read in the forums on this topic ...  some suggest you loose your tab immediately when switching (a pre-condition to getting the lower rate); others think that your tab gets frozen until used; others are saying you have to use it immediately or loose it. It's very confusing. I hope someone from Koodo itself clarifies this.

I want to upgrade my phone and the tab is $8 per month, I have a positive tab balance, does my tab balance go towards the tab I have to pay for the upgrade each month.

If you are paying Tab charge every month, then you don't have a positive tab.

Tab positive is just a gimmick. It doesn't get rid of the tab because the real truth is the tab is just an excuse for the company to fool you into paying more than you should per month. So they charge you something they call a tab on what really is a $50 phone made in China and supplied to them in bulk. Tab positive is a scam. I'm leaving Koodo.

PositIve tab is part of the old tab where you had a credit towards a phone. How is a credit you can optionally use a scam? Get your phone from elsewhere, although Koodo at the time especially had some of the best price points for phones, or same. Plus it's been gone for nearly two years now so what are you concerned about?

I think that you vastly underestimate the cost of phones to manufacture. Plus the shipping and marketing and r&d. Apple and samsung do have large profit margins sure but that's not shared by most other OEMs. Did you know that the memory in the s8 alone is 40USD? Total cost to manufacture is 300usd.
