add an 'own phone' option to the webstore for new customers with unlocked phones.

Currently, new customers purchasing phones from koodo can choose both their phone and plan at the time of the order. Customers who already have a phone can only order a sim card, since if they try to add a plan the cart will not allow them to check out unless they buy a phone as well. The simplest fix for this would seem to be to add a no cost 'own phone' item to the webstore so that these customers can check out in exactly the same way as those ordering a phone from koodo. The one difference would be that there should probably be a link to the phone compatibility tool included in the checkout process for customers with their own phone.

What you're basically saying is instead of adding a sim card to the checkout, they add this $0 "Own phone"? Isn't that the same thing but in two different sections. And also, if they don't have a sim card they're going to have to add it to the checkout anyways. The customer would still need to wait to receive the sim card. If the customer already has the sim card, they just call in to activate. That's how I see it from my perspective. Just more unnecessary work for the webstore team
I'm buying what your selling Timo. But I get what Ahmad is saying too. There's a bit of redundancy going on with it. So how about we just move the sim cards from accessories to the "phones" category. For anybody purchasing a new phone they're included anyway, I don't think there's a specific need to highlight them in "accessories". This should allow the system to pair up calling plans with just sim cards as it does with the phones right now.
That and update this page so it actually links to sim cards on the online store... http://koodomobile.com/en/on/switch2koodo-step-2.shtml

Not the same thing. When customers buy a phone from koodo they are able to CV choose their plan when they place their order. There is nothing on the page to indicate that this is not allowed when they just need a sim card. The result is that customers choose a plan and a sim and are then told that they cannot check out until they choose a phone. This conflicts with the other information on the site and creates a huge amount of frustration for the customer. I agree that it should not be necessary, but it strikes me as the most straightforward solution, and it doesn't require the web developmnt team to edit the code for the cart.

Right, but if you moved the sims from accessories to phones the system sees the sim as a phone, and allows you to pair only a sim card with a plan. That's what your trying to accomplish right? Sorry If i'm misunderstanding you. I'm not sure what shopping cart system they're using, but on most that's a pretty easy thing to accomplish.

Ther still does need to be a way to buy just a sim card for those customers already with koodo who can't get to a store. Signing up with koodo is very simple and straightforward for a new customer who wants to buy a phone from koodo. What I would like to see is for the process to be as similar as possible for customers who are bringing their own unlocked phone. i.e. For new customers buying a phone: Choose phone and add to cart Phone and sim card are both placed in cart. Choose plan Check out. Phone is shipped out, plan already selected on account. Customer calls in when they receive the phone to activate sim. Current online sequence for new customers not buying a phone: Following the instructions on the site, customer skips choosing a phone because they have one and goes to step 2, choose a plan Chooses to purchase a sim card because they know they need one for their phone Tries to check out and is denied because they haven't chosen a phone. Nowhere on the checkout page does it indicate that they need to remove the plan from thecart to be allowed to buy just a sim card. What I would like to see for customers with their own phone: Choose 'already have an unlocked phone' and add to cart Prompted to verify compatibility by entering imei If phone is compatible, sim card is added to cart along with a dummy 'own phone' item with a cost of $0 Customer then chooses a plan Check out Sim card is shipped, tentative acct already created with plan already assigned Customer calls in to activate sim card when received. Believe it or not, this is a definite problem. I've been following these forums for about 2 months now, and have already seen at least a dozen threads on this exact topic.

While i agree wih the concept here, the problemnis noobs who buy said sim and plan then skip the compatibility tool. Then their phone doesn't work and they won't find out why until after they insert their sim. Not a huge problem since they could potentially just cancel. But it woukd be nice for those who are bringing their own phone to be able to lock in promo plans tied to a sim.

To be fair, though, that already happens with the existing system, and I can't see it happening any more often due to the modifications I proposed.

This page makes it pretty straight forward: http://koodomobile.com/en/on/switch2koodo.shtml When you click 2. Get a sim card and under "Where do you buy and activate a Koodo SIM card" they should just add if you purchase the sim card online, to checkout without a plan. The page itself is already there and all they need to do is add text. That's just my opinion. Changing what customers are already getting used to I think will cause even more confusion. But I agree that customers should KNOW how to checkout with only a sim card. Whether it's changing the way it's done or more info given to the customer

I hear what you're saying, but I would counter that the customers who have learned how to do this are already with koodo and will thus not be affected by changes in the sign up process. The change I am proposing would also not prevent anyone from using the existing process. It just eliminates a common problem for those not familiar with it.

I agree with Timo and in the phone section that they are picking just have one that says own phone & it just brings them to SIM Cards selection screen. Then they will get that they need to buy a SIM Card. Then when you click on the SIM Card & pick to purchase, it has a statement that comes up to let the customer know to call & activate the card when they recieve it

Another issue is this. Current Promo Plans expire on the 10th. Let's take the example of a new customer who is interested in one of the Promo plans, but lives far from a kiosk/FS/BB. He can order a SIM, but no plan. If he could order both at the same time, without a phone, he can have his Promo plan. If he has to order the SIM alone, then activate it with a plan, he looses out 'cause the Promo plans are expired. That is one very valid reason IMHO we should be able to checkout without a phone. SIM+plan at the same time is the way to go.

Customers currently still have to 'activate' the SIM when received (even when purchasing a full phone + plan) and if not activated before the promo is expired, regardless if you selected the plan, then you won't be able to get it

Would be interesting if there were some way to reserve the plan for 30 days orc15 days after purchase.

If you choose the plan you want online before the plan offer expires but your phone doesn't get delivery to you till after the plan you chose expires then you can't get that plan even though you chose it before it expired????

Well, a loophole of sadness has been uncovered! lol... seriously though, we need a way to be able to subscribe to a plan even on the day it expires. That would surely please many potential new customers!

I have asked the higher ups. Ill post when an answer has been given.

So the higher ups say once the person orders online the plan is added to the SIM Nd activated in the back end, the person then calls in and the account becomes active. So really all that would need to happen is for Koodo to add the Dummy phone as Timo suggested. Great idea
