Why the Lack of Blackberry phones?

Userlevel 2
Good Morning, How come there are no Blackberry phones carried by Koodo? (Certified pre-owned does not count because it the old OS 7). I bought my certified pre-owned Z10 from Koodo and I am looking to upgrade to a Z30 or the new Blackberry Passport. I love my Z10 but it's time for me to upgrade. Why has Koodo abandoned a Canadian Company?

Hi Ezilla, This is likely due to the weak level of demand of these devices from Koodo customers (vs. popular Android phones & iPhones). If you really want the new Passport, you could always buy it outright (unlocked) and use it with Koodo. Alternatively, Koodo typically announces upcoming devices on their Facebook page so you can keep an eye out there but I don't think there has been any rumours around Blackberry 😞 Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter, The demand is not weak, it's your perception of this that becomes your reality. I don't know why in the wireless mobility world, sales staff and customer service staff can bash a brand. I seen it first hand and I am not saying that you are doing it right now however; you are contributing to the general misinformation that is circulating about Blackberry. The passport has sold 200,000 units thus far and is currently sold out. Check out this site and forward it to your staff: http://blogs.blackberry.com/category/blackberry-fact-check/ Sales & Customer service staff are suppose to be neutral when recommending a phone and not based on which phone is in their pockets. I've worked in sales many years ago and this is the way I was trained. Find a product that meets the customer's needs. My apologies for my rant but it had to be done. FYI I am not a Blackberry employee in anyway shape or form. Just a person who cares about a Canadian Company that focuses on protecting my private data. I just want a phone that doesn't bend when placed in my pocket. 😛 I appreciate your swift reply. Best Regards, Ezilla

Hi Ezilla, I'm a Koodo customer just like you so my comments shouldn't be associated with Koodo as a company. I'm sure that it's fairly costly for Koodo to bring a device in which is why they need to assess if this matches their current/future customer base. I agree with you 100% that the goal of Sales & Customer service is to find a device that meets the customer's needs. That being said, if you look at Blackberry's global marketshare, it is estimated that this will slide to 0.8% this year (source: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-05-28/blackberry-market-share-to-fall-to-0-3-in-2018-idc-says.html). I think that is a fair indication around what customer demand for these... Again, I recognize that the 200K Passport sale is commendable but this is a fraction of what other 'hot' devices are able to generate in terms of numbers (i.e. 10M iPhones 6 source: https://www.apple.com/pr/library/2014/09/22First-Weekend-iPhone-Sales-Top-10-Million-Set-New-Record.html). I'm all for supporting Canadian companies but it's really unfortunate that Blackberry wasn't able to 'keep up' with times. Again, this might be subjective but even in the corporate sector, Android and iOS are being more and more widely adopted. Cheers, Peter PS: full disclosure, I was previously very loyal to Blackberry having personally owned the Bold 9700, Bold 9900, and the Z10. I'm currently on the iPhone 6.
Hi I was looking for a pre-owned Q10 or Z10 and noticed Koodo still only advertises the curve as their only pre-owned. Is there somewhere I can find out if they have other pre-owned bb?

Hi Peter, Blackberry strategies has changed quite extensively since Chen tookover as CEO. Again, you are negative with some of your facts and sources. Blackberry has tripled it's EZ Pass Licenses for BES10 Enterprise Mobility Management. (Source: http://blogs.blackberry.com/2014/09/blackberry-triples-ez-pass-licenses-for-bes10/) Blackberry will be profitable regardless of what devices will be deployed in the corporate sector. Check this link out: http://bgr.com/2014/10/02/blackberry-passport-jimmy-kimmel/ Funny comment about the IPhone 6. I have a work IPhone 4S and personal Z10. Don't get me wrong I don't mind IPhones however; Blackberry devices is my preferred personal device. Racqual, your probably better off buying a pre-owned Z10 or Q10 of Kijiji. Make sure you check the IMEI via the following link: http://www.protectyourdata.ca/check-the-status-of-your-device-in-canada/ Sometimes there is a delay before it's updated so make sure you also check the IMEI with the wireless provider. I did previously see some advertisement for a pre-paid Z10 from Future Shop/OR Best Buy a few weeks back. Actually, Staples carries the Z10 for $229. Thanks again Ezilla. Yes, Blackberry is venturing towards a stronger focus on it's services (vs. just device). Also, in terms of strategy, the Passport is targeted (and I quote) at “power professionals”. I'm purely guessing here but I imagine a majority of Koodo users are your everyday consumers (i.e. care about ease of use, compatibility, access to apps, etc). Again, I'm not focusing on the 'negative'. Just trying to shed some light as to why this may not make sense for Koodo's business. Cheers, Peter
