Plan Changes

Koodo changing my plan! So I get this great plan from Koodo, almost can't believe how good it is and even got it all verified at an official Koodo store (not a reseller) and within 2 weeks of starting the contract I get this by text 'Koodo: Great new text and data roaming rates starting August 28! No purchase required, just turn your phone on and enjoy the new rates. Incoming texts will be free! US and Int'l outgoing texts change from $0.60/txt to $5/100 txts. US data changes from $5/MB to $5/20MB. Talk is $1.50/min.' - which is not what I signed up for!! How can Koodo change my contract - I always thought a contract was mutually agreeable between two people/entities and not one imposing it's will on another!

So they didn't change your plan That text is telling you that these new features are now part of the plan you signed up for. The basics (minutes /data) don't change and all plans include unlimited texting to anywhere from Canada This text is only about roaming costs which no plan currently includes.

Sort-of on topic: have you seen the new roaming add ons? Definitely a great step in the right direction.

After posting this comment, I did login to self-serve to see where things are at. Good to see that 40 combo with unlimited minutes/sms and 250MB data, it's certainly a welcome change.

No one is changing your plan David. Is that how you interpret it? If yes, than clearly, their language is not clear. 🙂

Also it does explain in the fine print of your contract that Koodo does reserve the right to make changes to the service they provide as long as they provide you notice well in advance of the change, but as others have stated your plan itself can not be changed by anyone but yourself.

And this is a positive change telling you the roaming price has dropped. Before Aug.28, when roaming in the US you had to pay $0.60 for every incoming and outgoing text, $5 per 1MB of data After Aug.28, when roaming in the US you will pay $5 per 100 outgoing texts with all incoming texts becoming free, and $5 per 20MB of data It also noted that the US roaming rate for talk remains at $1.50 per min. This talk rate is not what you pay when you are calling from within Canada while on Koodo's network. So don't worry! Koodo won't change your plan without your consent

Thanks for all the replies - however... when I log into my account, then go to 'Plans and Add-ons' and from there to 'Plan' for my account specific details - my plan is the: 'CAN Data 300MB 300 min $39 $39.00' plan and is highlighted in blue. When I mouse over the blue plan name a pop-out appears with further details of the plan features (which given as it is a pop out I can't copy and paste here) and one of those features - which is a key factor to me and was instrumental in my decision to come over to Koodo is the 'Unlimited Messaging (Text and Picture) Includes [b]International Text Messages[b] Sent And Received In Canada - which is definitely not what the text message (copied into my original post) says! Attached is a photo of the pop-out - just for clarification.

The change is not coming until August 28th, which would explain why it's not showing yet, right?

The text you got applies only if you are roaming (physically located) outside of Canada

Well, technically as of the 28th it could/should say unlimited incoming messages in Canada and the US. 🙂
Hi David, I believe there is a little bit of confusion going on here! The feature you are referencing as part of you plan is for text messages sent while you are [i]in Canada. The text message you received is referencing calls,texts and data used while [i]outside of Canada and while specifically in the U.S. This is called "roaming". Those new rates are actually more advantageous than the current ones. So you get to keep your plan exactly as it was when you signed up, and as of August 28th, if you happen to travel to the U.S you can take advantage of even better roaming rates. Hope that clears things up a little for you!
