Nfc sim cards and a better data plan

Userlevel 1
Why doesn't koodo have nfc enabled sim cards yet? This has been a thing for a while now and I would love to take advantage of it. Also, I'm on the large tab plan and the best data plan you can get is only 5GB? For 65$ a month I could get an unlimited(yes speed capped after a certain level but still unlimited) and everything koodo offers with another provider. AND nfc enabled sim card. Don't get me wrong, I will probably never switch as I've been with koodo for 7 years now, but come on. Move with the times already!!

Regarding NFC sim cards, it's currently not planned: http://community.koodomobile.com/koodo/topics/koodo_and_nfc_enabled_sim_cards?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=new_reply&utm_content=reply_button&reply[id]=14543062#reply_14543062

Why not? People want to use them. More would use them if they both had access to the chip and were informed of the service 🙂

I can't comment on Koodo's behalf on why not. I do recommend that you Like the idea in the original thread (link above), which at this time has 7. It helps Koodo gauge interest if 1 main thread is used, rather than discussing same topic in multiple threads.

Maybe if there were real moderators this place would be tidier 🙂

Barely anyone uses these things yet. Likely not its time just yet. Some of their phones are already NFC capable, so if they wanted they could just buy some sims.

Do you not think maybe more people would use them if our carriers actually provided us the NFC chips? Can't very well use something that doesn't exist 🙂 just sayin'

I'm just going to assume you mean Wind when you quote unlimited data with another provider. They're only able to provide unlimited data because they cover a very limited service area while Koodo is nation-wide. And according to official statements of the heads of the nation-wide providers the infrastructure doesn't currently exist that can support unlimited data nationally. Wind refuses to piggyback on towers belonging to other providers so they don't have to play ball with everyone else, sure, but that also means very slow expansion and poor network penetration in the areas they do provide coverage, which can result in a poor connection or accidental roaming. Plus, if you happen to want to catch a Canadiens game, the Grand Prix, Osheaga or maybe just visit me here in Montreal you'll be roaming and it will be no accident.

I find it interesting that you've been with Koodo for 7 years since they've only existed for 6. Any chance you can provide the documentation for this $65 Unlimited everything/throttled data plan? It can't be WIND since you claim you're getting an NFC SIM card from them too when according to their website, they currently don't offer that either.

Hi Jewels, thanks for the ideas. Just for clarity, I wanted to let you know that at this time, we're only looking at implementing NFC enabled SIM cards at Koodo. Thanks again for being a part of the Koodo Community!

Great news! If you own an NFC enabled smartphone, as of June 15, 2015 you can purchase an NFC Sim for $5 from any Koodo Shop that will allow you to tap and pay for purchases with your phone where available. For details visit https://www.koodomobile.com/mobilepayment.
