Cheaper Data / Larger Data boosters

30$ for one Gigabite? I could buy a 32 gig flash drive and have it mailed to myself same day for less.

But that's storage, the one GB we're looking at is data transfer to your device over the network. Apples and oranges. However I do agree that data is overpriced. But on prepaid you have the advantage of rollover data.

Plus once it's used up, it stops working. You'll have to add another booster to get more data. Some find this annoying this it's a nice protection measure, especially for parents getting a phone for their kids.

It's more like comparing apples to an apple basket lol

I'm pretty sure he understands the difference 😉 Thanks for the laugh, Drew. I support the idea 🙂

Yes, I understand the difference (In my mind the flash drive was being delivered by carrier pigeon!) Just using it (hyperbole ftw) to illustrate my point - mobile data is often sold at several hundred times actual cost to the provider. Thank god for WiFi. I would love to see a 6 or 8 gig data booster added that followed the same price structure (although an overhaul of all the data booster prices to put them closer in line with actual cost to Koodo would certainly be welcome).

Why do we need to pay overpriced data while the USA pay 80$ for unlimited data and we pay 94$ for 5 miserable Gb... what's the problem here? Scammers and profit lovers. I support the idea Drew.

I know! I hate profits! It's hardly a scam however.

As a Telus shareholder I do love the profit. As a customer I wish there were more dominant regional carriers

Yeah, I agree it is on the high side. Side story: I was paying 25 for 500kb of data a month the same year the original iPhone came out. There has been some progress 🙂

In the future, carriers are looking to migrate us off analog voice and have us on VoLTE. They don't want to get stuck with grandfathered mega buckets that they don't feel will make a profit.

Voice is digital now, but I know what you mean. I would think they'd exclude the voip traffic from your data cap, as it is suppose to be out of the minute bucket. As for stuck with grandfather plans, I will never give up my Super6

Nor will I give up my Qc 3gb

this suggestion is regarding prepaid boosters, so I don't know if grandfathered plans would really apply (although I'm sure data overage charges are just as price gouged).

Honestly, just wait till back to school comes around. Rate plans will double data or drop in price. Its like clockwork people. Happens every year.

Yeah, that's what I said about x-mas, didn't happen.

And not likely for prepaid.

Prepaid most likely not, but not too long ago Koodo had a $54 plan that included 2gb. (the one I am currently on) Just keep an eye out for it, and I expect it to happen near back to school.

Last December, they did have a promo for double data and minutes on prepaid. Maybe they'll do it again.

My "double-data" 2 GB plan for $56 from Xmas 2012 hasn't been repeated yet.

6GB $60 Grandfather Canada-wide.. I got my plan in 2012. Also with 250min eve/weekends and unlimited incoming calls.. It's fun to drop by the other carriers and ask if they can beat my plan : )
They ALWAYS immediately say, "Yes, of course!!"
Of course, they never can.
