Yes, if the BlackBerry is originally from Koodo or is an unlocked compatible model. Please let us know exactly which model and carrier if you want a more specific answer.

Depends, For a BlackBerry 10 device if it's a telus or koodo device it will work fine. Do you know what BlackBerry your friend has and what carrier it was originally locked to?
What's a unlocked compatible model?

All will be revealed if you can provide the model number of the phone you want to use.
I'm not sure! There's either a blackberry bold that has been won in a contest and never used that I could get. Or from my friend the blackberry bold 9900 with no contract with telus. Could I just put my SIM card in that phone and it would work with my number and same plan?
Like would the one that's never been turned on, could I put my sim in it and then it just adapt to my number and plan?

The Telus 9900 *might* have to be unlocked. See if you can test out your SIM beforehand (it uses a big sized SIM) Also, in order to use data, BBM, and email, you'd need to make sure you have a (BB) data plan otherwise you'll only get to use calls/texts. Then you have to update the APN to bb.koodo.com, and update the network routing table. We'll tell you how to do that once you've got it working in your phone first.

The telus one will probably work without having to be unlocked Can't tell you for sure about the contest one. You can just out your sim in as long as the sim is the same size for that phone. You may need to switch your plan to a BlackBerry specific plan if you don't already have one
But wait. Blackberry SIM cards aren't the same size as a normal one? I have a moto G phone right now. With the plan calling and unlimited texting. I don't want bbm so I would just stay with my normal plan. So the first phone, the one with telus would work? Ah so complicating I'm really sorry.

It's not "Blackberries" in general, it's the specific model. Newer Blackberries use micro SIM too. If you just want calling to use your existing plan then all you'll have to do is get a regular sized SIM from somewhere that sells Koodo postpaid. It's $10 + tax. Once it's activated, you can put it in the 9900 and you'll be able to use it. It *might* have to be unlocked since it's not originally a Koodo phone. Go to freemyblackberry.com. Free code after 24 hours or $3 USD for an instant one.

It's not BlackBerry sim cards are different. Some phones use different sized sim cards. If you don't switch to a BlackBerry plan, the only things that will work are the phone and text messages. No Web, no.picture messages, just phone and text
Ok thank you very much everyone. I'm sorry I don't know anything. So it's probably just best to pay off my koodo tab and then get the blackberry q5 that koodo has so then everything is connected with koodo? Doing it the other way that I wanted to is just too complicated?

That works too. It's not really complicated for us, but fi you don't feel up to it then sure, get the Q5. It's a great budget BB10 device.

Well, you'd have a new phone with a warranty and wouldn't have to change your sim or your plan.
So is the q5 a good phone? A good blackberry?

Yes, the OS is very different from previous versions. The Hub works very well for communication.

You'll like it if you like a physical keyboard. The keys are well spaced and loud enough that you'll know you pressed them. And if you have any questions you can always check back here. At lease one of the Mobile Masters is a BlackBerry nutball.

If the indonesians wanna buy it, they can have it. More money for BBRY to make better phones for NA ;P And maybe fix the minor bugs in the OS hehe
Ok thank you very much. How much a month would it be to get a plan for that blackberry without bbm but calling and texting and picture?

You can keep your plan the way it is or pick a new one. They're available on the website.
