Bought a PRIV outright. Gotta get a SIM card for it. Is Koodo going to try to change my plan??

Bring-Your-Own-Phone

I purchased a BB Priv outright so I could simply switch over my SIM card and carry on with the contract I have with Koodo.  Disappointingly, the slot for the SIM in my new Priv is about half the size of my existing SIM card for my blackberry Curve.  If anyone has experience with this, I'd love to hear.  I'm assuming when I go into Koodo, they're going to take this opportunity to raise my plan fees...?

No they will not.

You can just keep the same plan and buy a new SIM card. Nothing more. As easy as it seems

You have to pay for the new SIM Card though. It will be $5 or 10.

SIM cards are now 10$ at all stores for postpaid and 20$ for prepaid.

Thank you. I guess inflation is hitting hard.

Not inflatio, it's cost to manufacture SIM cards since they switched to NFC SIM cards. 5$ sims costed 40cents to manufacture & the new NFC sims cost 8$ so their markup isn't really all that significant as to what it used to be.

Well, I am learning something here. I always thought this NFC had to do with the phone and not the SIM.

NFC can de done both ways. Depends on the application. My Samsung Note 2 from a few years back has NFC antenna built into the [i]battery case, but can't do the payment trick.

These are security access cards, but the tech used is the same.

And here I am learning something else. Price of the card US$ 0.5, let's say C$ 0.75, FOB. Handling, shipment, custom clearance can't be more than C$ 0.25 (this is very much in excess). Koodo is selling those card for C$ 10 / 20. Wow, I will get into the SIM Cards business and will be rich.

If you have one of the Blackberry Social plans, it may not work the same, due to the change in operating system running on your phone.
