BB Curve desktop software and a No Data Plan


Just got a BB Curve 9920 without a data package just my regular minutes. I'm trying to use the calendar function on the desktop software from BB but nothing works. I'm doing this with the Curve tethered to the laptop, not wireless. Another little wrinkle is that my XP SP3 laptop it didn't like the BB software download, something about "not Windows Logo certified" but I downloaded anyway without problems. Are these issues because the new phone is not configured to use data or what? All I want to do is keep track of where I'm supposed to be and when, just like my old Palm Pilot and it's computer software! thank you in advance........

"not Windows Logo certified", you are having an issue with windows. It is a legitimate windows version? (With this, we will not be able to help you, contact Microsoft) Do you want to sync your calendar? is it with outlook you want to sync it? If so, this was an ongoing issue. Not a koodo related issue but we can help you. You need to update your Blackberry settings. On the device (not on the Desktop Manager) go to Options -> Advanced Settings -> Default Services and select the email account for Outlook as your default calendar. After updating these settings on the device, you can go to Organizer -> Configure Settings on the Desktop manager and it should allow you to configure Calendar Sync this time.

To be able to use the 9320 to it's fullest, you need to have the Blackberry version of your rate plan because it has the BB APN, which is required in order for things like data, possibly the calender and other applications to function properly. In order for the APN to be programmed into the phone, data services must be on(in the phone) and then the Host Routing Table needs to be registered. The BB desktop software is a program where you can connect your BB to your computer and manage it through the program. There isn't a lot Koodo can do to troubleshoot it because it's not a program they offer.
Thank you Xavier.....I have a legitimate Windows XP version that came on the computer from Dell but of course "no" disc came with it, and yes I want to use the Outlook calendar that I'm using with my Hotmail account. the trail I had to follow to get to the Default services was.....Options, Device, advanced systems settings, default services which are locked on "Default" without the option to choose my email provider. therefore it won't do what I'm hoping to do as promised at the Koodo kiosk and I'm pretty sure it's a Koodo issue.....

It's not a Koodo issue. Koodo has very little to do with the app functionality of the phone. Try my suggestion. You do have to be contected to Mobile Data, so there's a potential for minor data charges.

As myke wrote above. You do not need data to tether/sync calendar from your phone to outlook. That's crazy. (Unless you are doing it wirelessly which is not the case) I recommend you to check if everything is up to date (Blackberry version on your device, Blackberry Desktop) and try again. I had a blackberry before and it took me time until i had it done. oh, it is not a Koodo issue since this is not a koodo phone. If you are to sync your calendar wirelessly and it is not going through. Then, it might be a network or configuration issue.

thanks for trying to get this worked out for me. Unfortunately although the phone is indeed a Blackberry I got it from Koodo and I consider it a Koodo phone but I'll go on the Crackberry/Blackberry websites and see if I can get more information there.

Xavier: On older Blackberries, data is required for applications to sync, this includes apps like the Calender.

Not if you use the usb cable to sync manually.

On the 9300 & the 9320, it is required....
I don't understand why the app functionality of the phone is the issue. It's got the calendar built into it and all I'm attempting to do is plug it into my laptop and sync it with the Outlook program calendar and contacts list. surely there must be some software that will work without using Mobile Data minutes.........just like the cheap and easy little program I have with my old Palm Pilot software that's still on my laptop and functioning but that's another story....
