Wrong Bill | Never Activate EasyRoam but got CHARGED

I have never activated Easy Roam in the past month but got CHARGED for this.

I am not in Canada now and I have another SIM card & disable the roaming data of Koodo SIM card. It does not make any sense that Koodo charged me for activating EASY ROAM. Also I did not receive any message of EASY Roam until I saw the bill. Anybody helps!!?

How did you disable your “Koodo SIM”? was the SIM taken out of your phone?

Could you follow this link to find the reason why they charge you roaming fee

Disable the Koodo SIM In the cellular settings of iPhone.

I have never activated Easy Roam nor got any Easy Roam messages, I dont understand why it got automatically activated. This is ridiculous...

I checked my account: No message was sent & No roaming data was used.

Unfortunately, this is not enough. You need to turn off data completely before doing so.

See more here :

I I turned off data completely before travelling exactly the same in this tutorial -- “Turn data and data roaming OFF in your mobile device’s settings”, and got charged for EASY ROAM  in the middle of my travel from nowhere.

I still dont understand Koodo could automatically activate Easy Roam without my consent and charge me while my Koodo Data Roaming. Any help?

Easyroam is charged when you used data, sent text or made/received calls. If you didn't want to use easyroam internationally, you can remove roaming add-on in self-serve.https://www.koodomobile.com/en/easyroam

Anyway, as you already checked but didn't find the exact cause of roaming, let me flag a rep to look into it

Hello @Daisybiu

From what I can see, the Easy roam feature was present since the month of May of 2023.  The charge present were triggered by text messages sent and they are a valid fee.

You can always remove the feature via the Self Serve account. In order to avoid future similar charges, you can keep your data roaming and mobile data settings off. It is also recommended to set the device on airplane mode or even remove the sim card.

You can use the link provided from @Dinh  and @Robert T for additional details.

You also have the option to speak with our dedicated team for a bill investigation, by schedule a call-back with our Koodo Virtual Assist

@Darius Koodo from the screenshots I see Easy Roam charged for Sept.9 but under the usage screenshot I see 1 text each for Sept.8 and Sept.10

This does not exactly match the Sept.9 12:41am easy roam initiation.  Can you please double check?

That’s because of the timezone difference.

The bill reflects the timezone of the roaming location, while the usage shows the Canadian one.

The usage was made on September 8 (in Canadian timezone)

But the “bill” shows this in the Minutes under the usage page.

I see what you meant, Dennis, sorry for the confusion.

My response was only partially correct, my apologies.

The trigger fee event (ER/VC $14/$16) is in the roaming time zone, while the usage event (data, voice, texts logs) are in the Home time zone (Canadian).

According to the previous link you provided “Why was I charged for Easy Roam?” . While time zone was different, the hours may be different but the minutes should be same.

In my case, the minutes are not aligned. You mentioned  Sept.9 12:41am easy roam initiation. Which one following message do you refer to?

In addition, it’s so ridiculous to charge one message 16 dollars for Easy Roam. You should charge one message, instead of automatically turned on EASY ROAM.

I did activate Easy Roam for one day during my trip in US back in May, but this bill was charged for last month and KOODO just activated automatically without my consent. I have two SIM cards (one KOODO, one the other) in Canada for two years, I have turned off data roaming for the other SIM card while still get/send messages, which never automatically turned on roaming or charge me for this ridiculous ROAM fees….

I have been loyal with KOODO for over 2 years and refer lots of my friends transfer to Koodo. But I am really shocked this time and it might be time for trying other operators..

So time zone issues aside (which I think is something that needs to be taken a closer look at),.. the use of easy roam vs pay per use roaming is 100% controlled by the customer.  It is on the customer to decide what option they want.  Either add easy roam or remove it from the account.  Koodo does not control or dictate that

“The use of easy roam vs pay per use roaming is 100% controlled by the customer” is that I did not manually activate Easy Roam but got charged last month.

It’s not about 16 dollars but your service in this part needs urge improve.

So you activated Easy Roam in May.  So like a light switch, it is on.  Did you de-activate (turn off the light switch, to continue the analogy) the Easy Roam after your US trip in May?
