Turned on data... got caught!

Does guess Koodo round up the nearest megabyte? I have no data plan, but somehow I used 0.03 megabytes (30kilobytes? Less than a picture message!) last month, got billed 5$ haha...

Yup… you just pasted the threshold. I think it is ridiculous too. Give Koodo customer service a call tomorrow and see if they may waive the charge. No promises but definitely worth a try

Agreed. 25 MB should be enough for accidental data usage. You can't really do much with just 25 mb anyways, other than software upgrades, which WILL happen after an activation.

It's a little out of date and I agree with the first 10mb being free. But here is the idea. It has not been shot down but it is not under consideration either. http://community.koodomobile.com/koodo/topics/waived_or_per_kb_mb_rate_before_the_5_data_saver_kicks_in

What I think will happen: the non-data plans will probably disappear altogether, since there is only 1 now with an expiry date of 31/3. Then, all that is left are "data" plans, with 50MB as a minimum. There, problem "solved" from Koodo's standpoint 😛
If you can swear up and down you did not use your data intentionally, Koodo Customer Care will typically waive your 5 dollar fee. Chances are, you could have had an app pull 30kb of data for whatever reason. If you don't want data charges and don't mind not receiving or sending picture messages, I suggest you turn off your data in your settings. However, you can definitely turn your data back on if you want to send a picture message.

Koodo will generally only credit the account with the condition of a data block or adviser picture messaging can cause data charges and hold the consumer liable. But in all fairness I think it's a good call to set the expecation.
When your phone is connect to wifi, you can have mobile data turned on to do picture messaging and you will avoid mobile data charges.
