My iPhone broke this morning. how do I close my account so I dont continue to be billed? What can I do?


Hey, My Iphone 4 completely broke this morning, the screen went all lined and it died, now it will not turn on, it just lights up the apple and stays like that. I need to pay my current bill to close my account or can i close it now so i dont continue to get billed for nothing?

If you closed your account now you would be charged for what month would be remaining as well as any remaining tab balance. Hope that helps

You are technically being provided service, whether your hardware is in working order or not. You have to give Koodo 30-days notice for closing your account, so you will likely have to pay for any balance currently owing on your account (e.g., your most recent bill, if you haven't already paid it), and a portion of, or the complete value of, your currently active bill. However, if you are planning on purchasing a new phone to replace your dead iPhone 4, there shouldn't be any reason to cancel your service. You can use Self Serve to swap over and activate your new device.

Oh... My partner just signed up the other day and she was told she had to give 30 days. Might have been a clerk with old info though. Thanks for clarifying!

First, if you close your account then you will lose your number. You could potentially lose your plan (if your plan was a promotion that is no longer offered). Your account is not tied to this phone and you could replace it with any of Koodo's current offerings (I recommend the Nokia Lumia 635, Motorola Moto G, or a BlackBerry Q5 if you're on a budget). Or you could buy a compatible secondhand phone elsewhere. Second, you could possibly recover your phone if it's not booting up properly by performing a factory reset via iTunes. You will lose any data that has not been previously backed up. Since your phone isn't booting, you'll have to do the restore through recovery mode. If not, then you do have the option of taking the phone to a repair shop, but this may not be worthwhile as the iPhone 4 is a rather dated model and repairing it could possibly cost you more than a new phone.
