Massive airtime minutes charges


Hi Koodo community, I have a major problem. My plan only has 100 local minutes because I mainly use internet/data. And for some reason while it was in my bag, it accepted a call (from a number I don't even know, so quite possibly telemarketing) which lasted over 2 hours and 30 minutes long!!! It's going to show up as a massive bill and I did not make the call! Is there any way to waive that fee? I am a loyal customer for over a year and I plan to stay with Koodo. Please advise!!! - Crycry

Curious to understand how your phone accepted the call, rather than it going to voicemail? The steps I have to go through to accept a call on my phone would require a Gnome in my bag to swipe a finger across the screen.

Let's give Simon the benefit of the doubt rather than pontificating. If I put my Note II in my "dilbert" pocket with the screen facing my chest, it can sometimes light up like a Las Vegas slot machine just from body heat / skin contact when I am driving. Best to call the folks at home office to report a possible scam ASAP. Your vigilance will count FOR you. Noboby on this board has the tools to help you trace the call or problem, but Koodo will.
I have no idea how that happened either, dfbutt! I swear this isn't on purpose because I know my phone plan and I wouldn't purposely incur a couple hundred dollars on my phone bill and then ask for help here! I guess I will call them first thing in the morning because the office is closed now, but do you think they'll waive this fee if it's a scam? I am student and I cannot afford to pay so much. Sorry for sounding desperate but I really needed some reassurance and wondered if anyone else has had this experience. Thanks in advance!

By all means, I suggest you call in. I would also ask the question I asked of you, if for no reason than finding the means to ensure it does not happen again. The phones I am familiar with would be impossible to 'auto answer' while in a bag, or even Bob's pocket. Yours may be different. You can also try a reverse lookup on the phone number to see if you can learn the source, which may help in your discussions with Koodo staff.

I got a charge for $43 telling is for Local Airtime - Phone (minutes) totally 86 mins.

My plan is unlimited Canada-wide minutes, why I was charged for this part?

The thead is 3 years old. If possible, could you post the screencapture of the pdf bill (normally page3). Delete all personal information before posting pls.

ALso, have you checked if you used "call forwarding" feature? payperuse rate is $0.5/minutes. If you didn't have the $3 add-on call forwarding in your account, it could be costly. 43/86=0.5, so it is possible that you used it, and was charged at the pay per use rate.

Could also be along distance call to a location outside Canada.

Or if you switched to a plan with unlimited minutes, then you get prorated minutes charge on your previous plan.
