Kids grew up and can pay their own bills.


Kids have grown up, is there a charge to split the 3 phones I currently get billed for into 3 separate bills? Can I do this through the self-serve portal? Need instructions please.

What needs to be done is called a transfer of ownership. First, call Koodo and tell them what numbers you want to transfer as well as the names. The agent will initiate the transfer. The other parties would have up to 10 days to call Koodo to complete the transfer into their names. They would need ID for a credit check. The ones they would ask for are the driver's lisence, date of birth, credit card, and as a last resort...the SIN number. Any two of those will work. No need to give it all unless they are comfortable with it. If the credit check comes back where they cannot have a negative tab, any tab remaining under your name will be billed out on the final bill for the numbers. If the credit check comes back where a tab is allowed, the tabs will just transfer over with the rest of the number, plan, and phone. There is also a $25 fee to do this per number. That can always be discussed with the agent to see if, perhaps, at least one of the fees can be waived. No guarantees on that one but it's worth asking.

You can't split the bills without changing the ownership, but that is an option. Since this is account creation, Self Serve doesn't have access to that. You can do this over the phone. 1. I'm assuming your kids are now the age of majority in the province you're in and have government issued IDs like driver's license or equivalent provincial ID card + a Canadian CC, SIN #, permanent resident card, certificate of citzenship, etc. 2. Call Koodo and tell them you're giving your authorization to split your account and your kids will take over their own. 3. Now either they can come into the phone conversation at this point and do it right away or they can call back to complete the transfer within 5 business days. 4. There's a $25 transfer of ownership fee for each line. Your final bill will have a pro rated last month of service and their first will show a pro rated amount as well + the fee. Any existing Tab balance (positive or negative), plan, registered SIM, and phone # will stay the same. The only thing that will change is whose credit file it's registered to and the account #.

Bear in mind Laurie, that righ now all of the line have family calling, meaning they get unlimited minutes to call one another. Splitting the line means losing that benefit, but that may not be the end of the world. You could also give your kids access to your self-serve account and they can see their bills and pay their dues as long as they have a credit card.
Thanks for the replies. They've been paying their own bills all along and they both have clean records and credit cards - so that's not a problem. Family calling is unimportant with unlimited texting. So I guess it's simply a matter of when it's convenient. Thanks.
