What plan do you have? If you have a recent talk and text plan, it includes data saver, which means you only pay if you use data, so if you are paying $5 a month it's because you ARE using some data (even a minuscule amount will activate the $5). Your phone may be using background data without your knowledge. If that's the case, the only way to ensure that you don't get charged per month is to call Koodo and ask them to block data to your phone. You will lose the ability to send MMS messages (pic and video messages) however, but you will be able to still send standard text messages. If you have some other older grandfathered plan that includes a $5 monthly add-on charge, that's different, although I don't know if such a plan has existed on Koodo, but I'm sure there are people here who have been around long enough to know, but it would help if you gave more details of your plan. When did you get this plan?
