The moment your new plan starts, your old plan completely stops, except for billing purposes.
They also do pro ration if you happen to change your plan in the middle if a bill cycle

You don't need to worry about it for data.

I have 1000 minutes and 1000 mB on my original plan. Fortunately I signed onto unlimited texting. Half way thru the month, I discover that a local call center has hijacked my number and has gobbled up about 750 minutes and used 750 meg of my data. I better do something before my bank account collapses under the weight of all this yayda yada yada. I hate confrontation over overages, so I mistakenly belly up for a new 2000 minutes and 2000mB plan. What will my bill look like: 1/2 month of 1000/1000 plan = 500/500 plus 250/250 overage at that date. Lucky you. 1/2 month of 2000/2000 plan = that's left up to you. Probably well under the flat rate. Because you did the natural thing and cut down consumption to save. Plus you're paying a premium for a plan that you're not using. You would have been better off biting the bullet and keeping the original plan. Unlimited add-ons only start from that date... no back dating. In short, going temporarily overboard will NOT be helped by buying into a bigger plan, unless usage is really increasing. But in times of decreasing consumption with no overages, it pays to drop down a plan.

Pro rated goes by cost of plans. Example, your old plan costs $30.00 for 30days billing cycle = $1.00 per day. Example your new plan is $60.00 for 30days billing cycle = $2.00 per day. If you start new plan on day 15 you owe $15.00 on old plan, plus you will owe $30.00 for the raining 15 days left, in your 30 billing cycle. So that's a total of $45.00 plus overages, if any and tax of course. Then when your billing cycle starts again, your new plan will be $60.00 per billing cycle, plus overages, if any and tax.

We all agree on the the base plan rates. Seen too many complaints about overages. Buying unlimited on the last day does not seem to be a magic wand. Maybe someone from Koodo will clarify once and for all. There are more elegant solutions with other carriers.
