10$ for one roaming sms

I just got my recent bill and am very surprised because Koodo charged me 10$ for a single roaming sms. I sent a txt in US last week but I thought it may cost max 1$ not 10$. Does Koodo really charge 10$ for one roaming txt or is there something wrong?

If you had the easyroam add-on in your account, you would be charged by the easyroam rate - which is $8/24 hour. The outgoing text while you were in US triggered easyroam charge of $8 https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/easy-roam

If you didn’t have easyroam, you would be charged $10. The payperuse rate is $10 for 100 outgoing texts in the US. https://www.koodomobile.com/payperuse I think this is the case.

Thanks for the reply.

If 10$ for one roaming sms is Koodo’s policy, I get it.

However though I don’t know exactly how the other companies manage the roaming pricing,  the way of pricing does not seem reasonable.

For example, TELUS (of which Koodo says they are a part)  charges 0.75$ per USA roaming txt.

Simply charging 10$ for 100 txts sounds a bad trick.

This makes me seriously consider other companies.

It was the choice of Telus/Koodo management. Some customers only wanted a package of texting service while roaming and didn’t want to add the expensive easyroam, so they had that option instead of the  payperuse fee. If I recalled correctly, it was $5 for 50 outgoing SMS years ago but the price increased by now.

Thanks for the reply.

But to me, it sounds more reasonable that someone who wants to use more service need to register a extra roaming plan and others who just use a few times pay per usage.

And even in case of a calling, they change per minute not per hour.

Anyway I filed a complaint to CCTS to understand more.

Thanks again for the info and have a happy thanksgiving.
