Why no internet inspite of strong Wi-Fi?

Have been unable to get onto the internet or check email for 4 days now.  Usually do this through Wi-Fi as I don't have a mobile data plan. My Wi-Fi signal is strong and Koodo is activated in the APN. Please help. Using Samsung Galaxy Core LTE phone.

Why do I not have an internet connection on my phone (Samsung) when all other devices that use the same Wi-Fi connection are  working  without issue on the  Wi-Fi and I am getting for 2 days now the message "Checking account, Please wait" ?
Incidentally my acount is all up to date and I owe nothing?Kathleen

Wi-Fi has absolutely nothing to do with Koodo or your Koodo account, and would work even if the SIM card is removed from the phone.

Have you tried restarting the phone recently? That cures a lot of ills.

As per Jay Why's comment below:  "forget" your current network on the phone, restart the handset and then and re-sign-in from scratch. If you have comfortable access to your router's controls, you can also reserve a fixed address for your phone to help stablize the connection.

Are there any error messages that appear on your phone when you try to establish a connection with Wi-Fi, Esther?
When I try to connect to the web it states that it can't connect because the DNS look-up failed, and goes on to explain what most often causes these errors (no internet connection or a misconfigured network, or can be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing internet from accessing the network).  For attempts to connect to email it says "unable to connect to email server to verify your account information. No response from server."  Nothing has changed with my anti-virus or firewall on my Wi-Fi internet connection, so I don't know why I can't get the connection.

Do you have other devices that use the same Wi-Fi connection and do they work without issue on Wi-Fi? (e.g. laptop or desktop computer or another cell phone). Make sure you have an active internet connection. You may have to reboot your router (unplug it, wait a minute or two and plug it back in). A strong Wi-Fi signal doesn't necessarily mean you have access to the internet.

I just solved the problem by restarting the cell phone. It's working again.  Some sort of bug that solved itself when it restarted. Thanks for your efforts to help.

Great to hear. Jay Why's suggestion below + phone restart usually fix the majority of WiFi related issues with any phone.

Agreed. Reading back, I didn't see Esther's response to Robert's post.

I have had this happen a few times in the past. it show it as being connected, with a good signal, but it says "no internet". the only way I got it to work again was to go to the wi-fi setting, and tell it to "forget" the connection and then reconnect again. you will need to re-enter the password
