Why are new plans strictly better than when an existing customer changes to a plan with the same price?

I have been a Koodo customer since I received my first phone. From the very beginning I have had the same Talk and Text plan (25$ per month for unlimited texting and 100 minutes of talk). Unsurprisingly, with the release of Pokemon Go I have found myself wanting some data. While looking at the plans available online I noticed that a 40$ plan under the "Plans" tab gives you: 500 Minutes 500 MB of Data Unlimited Messaging Then under "Change your Plan" a 40$ plan only gives you: 300 Minutes 300 MB of Data Unlimited Messaging The same seems to be true for most plans, the one under "Plans" always gives you a better deal than the one for the same amount of money under "Change your Plan". I would like to know why this is because it would seem to encourage people to leave and come back or just leave period, rather than upgrade their plan. Thanks.

You're probably still on the old tab platform. If you pay off your existing tab, the new plans will be available to you. This can also happen if you have a positive tab balance. If you do have a positive balance then I recommend a phone upgrade or contacting koodo through a private Facebook message to get you on the right tab structure.
Thank you I will look into it

I wish there was a better deal for data. I'm paying 45$ for unlimited talk and text and 1gb. To go up to 2gb is another 20$

Have you check the overage rate on your existing plan? Some of those older rates are better then upgrading to the next plan.

The overage rate is the same (from when I got the unl talk and 1GB): $5 for 250MB
