why am I paying more and getting less for my Koodo rate plan than I was last year?

Last year I was paying $50 a month for Can Data 1GB & 1000+ Min. This year I'm paying $55 a month for Can Data 750 GB & 750 Min.  Why is it costing me more money and getting less?

Hi Greg,

You can pick a newer plan and get unlimited minutes and 1gb of data for 55$ a month. I'm not sure why you changed plans to the one you have now if you had a bettter plan before....

I bought a new phone last year and thought I needed more data, so I changed my plan. I changed back to the $50 a month, but don't get as much data or time as I had just a year ago. I believe Koodo is ripping us off.

By that definition, every company on the planet is ripping you off, since nearly everything costs more than it once did. A litre of gas once cost $0.35. A loaf of bread once cost about $0.25. A new car was once about $2500. Of course an annual salary was also once $5000 as well.

Come on Timo, you know very well that the recent telecom price hikes have little to do with inflation.

The fact remains that companies will charge whatever the market will bear. That's how the economy works, and how it has always worked. Complaining about high prices will never have any effect as long as people are still willing to pay them.

Ir was my understanding that the government arm that controls the licencing of cell phones was going to make it cheaper for cell phone users? The collusion between the cell phone carriers should be illegal. There is no competition, only set high prices by all of the carriers.

Governments meddling with private industry just makes for other problems. Look at what happened with 3 yr contracts, they stepped in saying to get rid of them, and all it did was drive prices up since carriers now have to make the same amount of money in 2 yrs vs 3.
And in response to Ivan, I think inflation definitely has a part in things. Have you seen how expensive new phones are getting? When I first started working in this industry, youd be hard pressed to find any phones that come close in price to phones that are out now. I don't remember many phones before that were over $1000, but now its not hard. So while its maybe not the exact definition of inflation, costs have definitely gone up for things.
