Why am I getting Data charges?

I have an HTC 1and I have a plan that includes unlimited texts with pics but doesn't include data. I am being charged for data usage for the past few months. I am trying to figure out where these charges are coming from......Data is turned off on my phone......Can someone explain??????

If data is really turned off, you should be fine. However, if you're using picture messages, then the data will need to be turned on for them to work and doing so does risk usage charges.

When you send a picture message, the data has to be on. If you are not connected to wifi when this happens, the phone will access the internet to check for updates and/or any internet related activities are done.
My phone does send pics with data turned off!

Sorry about your frustration, but HSPA phones (the ones with SIM cards) aren't capable of sending picture messages without an active connection to the internet and wifi will be insufficient because you need a direct connection to Koodo's servers. So, again sorry, your phone can't send pictures with data turned off.

Impossible for the phone you have to send pictures with data off.

I have had this phone over a year and haven't changed a thing with data since I had it. I have always sent pic texts and have not had any data charges until the past two months. All data was turned off on my phone when I bought it and I have never turned it on - I check it often to make sure it's off. Is it possible that it happens automatically?? What I'd like an explanation from someone as to, WHY?, for 10 months I sent txt pics with no data charge but for the past 3 months I am being charged.
The data block that koodo does will stop the charges but then I can't receive or send pic txt

Pictures are sent via the 3G data connection; therefore, regardless of what the phone says, if picture messaging is working then data is on.

The ONLY way you can send picture messages without ever having to worry about data is on prepaid, Cynthia. Depending on how much you make and receive calls, would that be an option for you?

Can you create a new APN with HTC to prevent MMS data charges?

As per previous threads, it is possible but it is not 100% guaranteed it will work on all phones that the apn can be editted in.
