hi Axel,
It is depended on what are features you are looking for in a phone. The A8 in my account got another $75 bill credit, so it is the cheapest among those 3.

If it is the software update and a faster device that you are looking for, then the PH1 might be the one for you. However, it is the 1st phone of Essential, there were some hardware and repair issues. It is not water-resistant also.
The G6 and A8 are quite similar in term of build quality. They are just coming from different brands. G6 is an older device. A8 has some recent hardware update from Samsung. They are both water resistant.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with one of those 3. It is all depended on your personal preference.

I would put the Essential first and a8/g6 tied second. The Essential has the best specs by far, especially for the price. It's got the most storage too at 128gb. It's really only missing water resistance. For the original 1 grand it's not good but for 360 it is excellent. The A8 is probably the best mid range phone out now. It's also the newest and while Samsung is known for slow major updates, they eventually come. It's got great specs and if you do a lot of selfies it might be the best choice. I wasn't going to suggest the G6 at all but the new oreo update that just came out for it seems to have fixed the major battery drain issue that it had. It's also the oldest of the three so no guarantees for updates past oreo. But it's still a solid phone now that it has a good battery life again.
Thanks Dinh,

I'm upgrading from an LG G3, overall was pretty happy with it but now it's dying. No bloatware & 128GB internal storage are to me the appealing characteristics of the essential phone, but reviews seem very mitigated and I'm concerned about the "ghost touch" and speaker grill issues some users seem to have had with it. I'm mostly a social media user, I almost never game, but I do have a lot of apps on my phone & they take up almost all of the 32 GB I have on my G3. I use google photos and google play so I don't really use my external storage. Can apps be installed on external storage on the G6 or A8? Would it slow them down a lot?

Yes, you could move  most apps to the micro SD card on the G6 and A8.

If you don't encrypt the card, the speed is ok. I once used the SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC ($40-50 on amazon) on the G6. it was acceptable.

If you get the Essential and hs e those quality control issues, don't hesitate to use the warranty to get it fixed or replaced. I had an essential for a little while and it was problem free.

Another vote for Essential. For the price it is a very good deal. Just hope you get one that doesn't have the issues that some are having with it.
Wow thanks for the quick answers you guys rock! Still not decided but hey now at least I know I can't really go wrong!
