What steps do I take to use my new phone with my existing WiFi

I have a name and a password for my WiFi which I have entered after turning wifi on and the message I get back is "problem authenticating" so no connection! Very frustrating but I'm probably missing something.

You'll have to go into your routers' wireless security settings and verify the password entered for the wireless router is identical to the password entered on your Moto G. Something as simple as a character inadvertently capitalized or missing, will prevent the Moto G from accessing your Wi-Fi network and you'll see the 'problem authenticating' error message as a result. If everything works according to plan, you should see the message: 'Obtaining IP address' followed by 'Authenticating...' and then 'Connected'. There are a few other solutions if that doesn't work, I'm just starting with the basics.
Thank you so much. It worked like a charm. I had made a spelling mistake in my password.
