Warranty Prices - Please Explain

I purchased a phone today @ a Koodo kiosk.

I was told the price of a 2 year extended warranty was $129, plus an additional $49:

(1) Is that 2 years beyond the manufacturer warranty. i.e. 1 + 2 = 3 yrs. total?

(2) Why would I spend $129 + $49 = $178 for a $240 product?
That's 178/240 = 74%!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------
BestBuy extended warranty rate is ~ 20% of product value.  That's for a direct replacement if the phone is non-repairable.

If my math is correct, or even remotely close - that's absurd and KOODO really needs to offer more competitive warranties.

1 - 2 years total. 2 - You've got a point.

$240 phone, probably not worth it. $800 phone, significantly more worthwhile.

Did they increase it to $129? Wasn't it only 6.99/month before?

$6.99 a month would work it to $170 or you can pay upfront $129 and save. It use to be $99 but that turned out to be an introductory offer for a limited time.

The warantee price is $129.00. What's the $49.00???
Administration Fee? Commission?

Any time I've purchased a warantee, it always been x$'s plus tax.

For a $62.00 price difference, I'd purchase a second phone, and switch out my sim card for a week to ensure it worked.
Odds are, the claim you make while fall under exclusionary clauses.

Any time...

Deductible when you make a claim. Extended warranty covers you from the things a regular manufacture warranty doesn't like water and physical damage.

The Koodo Extended Warranty service charge for accidental & liquid damages is $49 per request (Up to 2 replacements for physical or liquid damage).
