Verifying a Kudo certified pre-owned phone is authentic?

I'm buying a Kudo certified pre-owned Samsung Galaxy S4 off of Craigslist and I wanted to know the best way to verify that the phone is authentic and not a counterfeit?

Meet them in person, see the condition of the phone, test out the SIM card in your phone before buying it. Box is preferred.

Good answer! We've seen a few people get dinged bad over Craigslist through the community. Just be safe, check everything before agreeing to pay for it. (especially see if it works with your SIM). Otherwise, I would suggest going directly to Koodo for your phone so you know you aren't getting screwed.

Get the imei in advance Go here: http://www.protectyourdata.ca/check-the-status-of-your-device-in-canada/ Input the IMEI and verify it's not listed as lost or stolen
As far as I know, I press *#06* to look at the IMEI. And then the next step is to verify the sticker on the back of the phone matches it? Is that correct? I was also thinking of using this service to plug in the number. http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr Then finally I was going to test my SIM. Is this sufficient?

I tried this with my Q10 and other than telling me that it was an IMEI number, it didn't give me any other information. In actuality it asked me to enter the details of the device which I did not do.
I also wanted to mention that I thought me and this person could go to a Koodo store and verify the phone at the store. The guy at the store told me "We don't do that" and hung up on me. Quite rude, so I came here instead asking for help.

that would send up a red flag for me if he said that

@ Daniel - The store said that, not the person selling it. Sorry I should have specified
Also watched this video, which was quite helpful. But I want to be extra sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKxbBBtvAdY#t=14
The exact response I got from the seller when asking to test the phone with my SIM and look up the IMEI was; "No problem, the Box and receipt both have the IMEI that you can verify against the phone. And for sure you can test it out with your SIM." So I got a good feeling about this seller, but if there are any specifics that anyone can recommend, I would love to hear it.
