Unlocked phone constantly dropping network

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy SII and switched to Koodo a week ago, and there's a problem. Every 15 minutes or so, my network connection drops. This lasts about 30 seconds before it's back. A battery pull did not fix this. When the phone is on the network, data, voice, and mms all work perfectly, and signal strength is high. It just keeps on dropping the network several times an hour.

There are a few variations of thus phone. Koodo uses the T989. I suggest you check the one I using the tool on koodo website.Your version may not be optimized for use with koodo

Mine is the i727r Skyrocket. When switching to Koodo, I gave them the phone's IMEI and they confirmed the phone would be fine to use with their service.

I should say that double-checking with the tool linked above, my phone does show up as "compatible with the Koodo network"
I personally have two phones on my account , both are iPhone 4S one is locked to telus and other is a Rogers unlocked, side by side the Rogers one loses it services pretty often in low coverage areas where the telus one doesn't. Unlocked phones don't work as well as the ones branded for your carrier, I noticed the same results with bb.

That's simply not true. And interestingly enough, the only phone I've had issues with on Koodo is a Z10 that Koodo sold me. The other phones I've used with Koodo gave me zero issues, and they've come from Rogers, Bell, Wind, and Virgin UK.
pzaboy, I'm not sure it's the same problem - because the strength of the coverage isn't at issue. My phone will lose the network in high coverage areas. Koodo (yes, I know it's Telus) advertises itself as welcoming to unlocked phones, it's somewhat predatory of them to do this if they know the unlocked phones will lose connection every 15 minutes.

So this next part is just my opinion That is the same phone that it used AT&T My unlocked Galaxy s two Had issues while roaming on their network . You may find out if it's possible to flash a t mobile radio . It does not require rooting the phone but it does require installing an alternate recovery. Check xda forums for info on how to do this.
The phone is rooted, if it matters.

It makes it easier. Are u running custom rom?

No, I just unlocked Rogers's 4.0.4 ICS, no custom ROMs. If it's for sure not a faulty SIM or anything else Koodo can fix, I can rummage around xda forums for a custom ROM that could hopefully fix it. I'll have to anyway for my husband's Samsung Galaxy Note (he has the Telus one that resets APN to Telus defaults every time he reboots).

Cyanogenmod 10 worked for me.It changes the kernel which really helped.

The phone being rooted should not matter in itself. Custom ROMs can sometimes break functionality. Did you do a factory restore after switching to Koodo?

No, I didn't do a factory reset, but the ROM isn't custom, it's the Rogers ROM, rooted so I can uninstall bloatware

Do a nandroid backup of the stock romm, since you're rooted, backup your user apps using titanium backup. Install a custom rom designed for your device. See if you still have the issue. If not use titanium backup to restore your user apps. If you still have the issue, restore your band in recovery.
