Transfer from Telus - keep existing phone.

How do I transfer my number from Telus and keep my existing phone? There's supposed to be a 10% discount when using your own phone - how do I arrange that? It doesn't seem like this can be done online at Koodo's site... Can I do this at a store like FutureShop?

It would be better to do this at your local koodo store just to make sure they know what they are doing. First, notify Telus that you are going to port your number to Koodo. You need to give a 30 day notice! Next when you go to Koodo let the rep know that you are porting in a number from Telus. Make sure you bring the phone that you had with Telus in order for the rep to complete the port. Then you shall receive 10% your monthly bills!

Well, the local "store" is just a kiosk in a mall... Already spoke with Telus, was told I was ok as long as I get it done by this Friday. Hope the transfer doesn't an take excessively long time...

Just make sure you dont cancel your Telus account before you port. If you cancel the account then you lose your number. Giving Telus a 30 day notice is ok since your number is still active. When the number is ported, that is how your Telus account is officially cancelled. Depending on your cell phone that you have, you might need to unlock the phone to be able to be use it with Koodo. Make sure you do this before you port/cancel with Telus. Check out this link for details: http://help.koodomobile.com/getting-started-with-koodo/moving-your-number-to-koodo-new/how-do-i-move-my-number-to-koodo You cannot port your number online if you are new to Koodo. You can do this at Futureshop or a Koodo Kiosk
kiosk works fine you need your account number from telus and most times the phone will work right away but can take up to two hours.Just make sure your phone is compatable.
First of all Make sure your phone is unlocked,if not initially get it unlocked from any vendors online like http://www.mobile-unlocker.com coz then only you can shift carriers.. then to keep the same number you need to get PAC(*port authorization code) from your SP

What about if I owe a balance on my phone from a Telus contract? Can I take the balance with me or do I have to pay it off first?

Telus will charge you for it ion your final bill
Why should Telus charge me on my final bill? I thought that is why I have a tab with Koodo: because they pay the balance to Telus and I pay Koodo back, hence a tab!

Did you get a phone from Telus and still have a balance? Then you have to pay it off to Telus. If you get a phone from Koodo (you mentioned you have a tab with Koodo), you don't need to worry about Telus. Unless you have any balance from Telus.
