Trading in an unlocked iPhone 5 to upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

I am currently with Koodo and have an unlocked iPhone 5. About 2 months ago I got my phone completely replaced at the apple store after a deficiency with my original one. It really looks like and runs like new. No scratches, cracks, or chips. Now I would like to continue using Koodo, but upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Am I able to trade in my phone to Koodo to get some money back? If so, how much would I be able to get?

Hi Victoria,

You are always better off selling your phone yourself on a site like Kijiji. Koodo offers nearly nothing compared to the true value of the phone. You can then use that money to pay more of the phone upfront when you decide to get the S7 Edge.

Selling it privately through Kijiji or Craigslist you should get $150-$200 and carriers usually only offer about $80 trade in value

Good afternoon Victoria! Have a look at our Trade-In-Program http://koo.do/VmmoQG. Enjoy the rest of your day 🙂

The only advantage of the trade in is it's a guaranteed credit that's applied immediately. Plus stores can usually transfer your texts, photos, etc. with an MCE machine. With a private sale you run the risk of theft, low ball offers, delay between when you post the ad vs when you get the money, etc. but generally your payoff is higher. It's up to you but I usually do private sales too.

The risk of theft is no higher than meeting anyone in public for any reason - just meet at a public place. Even the most low ball offers tend to be higher than trade-in values.
Thanks everyone! I'm going to sell it privately on Kijiji, I've used the website before, so I know to meet in a public place :)
