Hey Cynthia is your outbox/inbox full what type of phone do you have

you could try a "hard reset". It's in your settings, depending on the phone yo have.

Yes, you would lose anything on the phone, but not on your SD card if you got one. Save everything you can there before you reset your phone.

Try quickly removing your battery and putting it back in and then try sending a text. The phone could just be 'clogged' and need a good reset

thank you but tried the battery thing several times, at several speed intervals from super fast to overnight!! grrrr, technology is great when it works, but apparently the end of the world when it doesnt 🙂

Are you just turning off your phone or removing the battery? the battery has to be removed

both, did the turning off thing several times over about a half an hour, and the battery and SIM card yanking thing several times last night before bed, then for the entire night...still the same

The only thing that would delete your data is if you went into the settings menu and actually did a reset to factory settings

once in messaging hit the menu metton button(its the the button on the left of the phone with the 2 squares one is white) make sure delete old messages is turned on and set text limit to something you prefer more then what its set to as it may be default which is 200, and sometimes this is the issue always something to check
